How to Use Hydrosols – Everyday Botanical Waters
Hydrosols are the gentle waters that form during steam distillation of plants. They carry a delicate imprint of the plant’s aroma and character in a far milder form than essential oils. Creation Farm hydrosols are one of our favorite tools for simple, elegant daily rituals.
What Makes Hydrosols Unique?
- They are water-based, not oily.
- They are much less concentrated than essential oils.
- They can often be used directly on the skin for most people, as a mist.
Everyday Ways to Use Hydrosols
- Facial mist. Mist clean skin and gently press in before applying cream or serum. This helps marry water and oil phases.
- Body refresh. Keep a bottle near your desk, bedside, or prayer chair to mist over face, neck, or chest during the day.
- Atmosphere & linens. Lightly mist rooms, pillows, or clothing with appropriate hydrosols for a subtle, plant-based atmosphere.
- After-sun and seasonal comfort. Cooling hydrosols can feel especially welcome in warm climates.
Pairing Hydrosols with Other Products
Hydrosols play beautifully with creams, oils, and serums:
- Use hydrosol first, then seal with oil-rich products.
- Layer different hydrosols for nuanced aromatic effects.
- Use them before or after prayer or journaling as a simple ritual cue.
Safety Notes
- Store hydrosols cool and out of direct sun.
- Use within the suggested time frame on the label.
- Discontinue use if irritation occurs, and avoid spraying directly into eyes.
