Herbal Philosophy & Product Intent
Herbal Philosophy & Product Intent
Creation Farm began in 1982 with handmade herbal soaps and a simple desire: to work with whole plants in a way that honors both the body and the Maker of the garden.
Over the decades, that small soap table grew into a family-run herbal workshop, a farm, and a growing library of books, courses, and recipes. Through every season, one principle has stayed the same:
Whole plants for whole people.
What Our Products Are For
Our products are traditional, plant-based preparations made for topical use and everyday life. They are intended to:
- Support the skin’s natural rhythms with oils, butters, herbs, and hydrosols.
- Offer comfort in ordinary seasons of dryness, weather exposure, and stress.
- Bring the gentle companionship of plants into daily routines and home rituals.
- Invite people to slow down, listen to their bodies, and care for themselves kindly.
We formulate with the idea that the skin is part of a larger story: environment, age, season, and the inner life all have a say. Our work is to come alongside that story, not to control it.
What Our Products Are Not
Just as important as what our products are for is what they are not intended to do.
- Our products are not pharmaceutical drugs.
- They are not medical treatments or cures.
- They are not intended for internal use or ingestion.
- They are not a substitute for the care of a health professional.
We respect the role of medical, dermatological, and mental health practitioners. Creation Farm’s products are designed to live alongside professional care, not to replace it.
Topical-Only & Gentle-by-Design
We work with oils, butters, waxes, herbs, hydrosols, and essential oils in topical preparations only. This includes:
- Cold process soaps and traditional bar soaps.
- Serums, creams, and lotions for face and body.
- Herbal salves and balms for localized care.
- Hydrosols, mists, and room sprays.
- Essential oils and synergy blends for diffusion and properly diluted topical use.
Our formulas aim for gentle, conservative levels of essential oils and active botanicals. We prefer steady, seasonally wise care over extreme or aggressive approaches.
Traditional Herbal Roots
Creation Farm sits in a lineage of traditional herbalism shaped by:
- Appalachian and homestead herbal practice.
- Midwestern gardens, orchards, and family farms.
- Historical herbal writings and monastic kitchen wisdom.
In this tradition, herbs are not simply “ingredients.” They are companions that help the body remember its own patterns of rest, restoration, and resilience. We pay attention to qualities such as:
- Warming vs. cooling
- Moistening vs. drying
- Soothing vs. stimulating
- Dispersing vs. grounding
These traditional observations help us choose which herbs belong in a cream, salve, or serum, and how they might best serve in winter, summer, or times of change.
Season, Life Stage, and the “Garden” of the Body
We see the body a bit like a garden. It changes with:
- Season — winter, summer, and the in-between times.
- Life stage — youth, mid-life, menopause, elder years.
- Place — humid, dry, hot, cold, windy, or sheltered environments.
Our serums, creams, and salves are arranged so that people can “tend the garden” according to what is happening now. In many cases, this is as simple as:
- A hydrating mist or hydrosol.
- A serum for deeper-feeling nourishment.
- A cream for daily comfort.
- A salve for especially dry, rough, or exposed spots.
We encourage people to listen to their bodies and adjust their routines rather than forcing the skin into a rigid program.
Our View of Science & Tradition
We are grateful for modern research on carrier oils, essential oils, and skin barrier function, and we pay attention to safety guidelines from established aromatherapy and cosmetic science communities.
At the same time, we honor the kind of knowledge that comes from gardens, farms, elders, and years of careful observation. Creation Farm stands at the meeting point of:
- Traditional herbal wisdom — seasonal, experiential, story-shaped.
- Modern safety standards — dilution, topical-only, non-medical claims.
- Practical family experience — what works in real homes, across generations.
Spirit, Stewardship, and Respect
Our work with plants is also a matter of stewardship. We believe that the created world carries wisdom and generosity, and that herbs invite us to receive care rather than strive for perfection.
In practice, this means:
- Formulating with respect for the whole person: body, mind, and spirit.
- Choosing ingredients that align with our values of simplicity and integrity.
- Keeping our promises about what products do and do not intend to do.
We do not claim that a cream or salve can solve the deeper questions of a person’s life, but we do believe small daily rituals can become places of quiet, gratitude, and renewed courage.
Our Commitment to Clear Communication
To care well for our customers, we make these commitments:
- We will be clear that our products are for external, topical use only.
- We will avoid disease and drug language in our descriptions.
- We will describe products as supportive and comforting, not curative.
- We will encourage people with complex medical histories to speak with their practitioners.
Creation Farm does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent disease. We offer traditional, plant-based skincare and aromatherapy products, rooted in herbal practice and made for daily life.
If you ever have questions about how a particular product might fit into your own story, we encourage you to review the ingredient list and, when needed, bring it to the practitioner who knows you best.
